As a teacher of fledgling artists and students who are often unsure of their place in the world, I hope to use this blog, at least partially, as an encouragement toward personal best, toward understanding the gift of music, particularly of singing, that dwells within most of us. Maybe we are creators in the endeavor or perhaps we are spectators, appreciators of music. I hope to aid my students in their quests.
I believe in a personal God who understands His creation and gifts them according to His master design. Some students burn with their calling and have the confidence to ignite. Some students want to burn but their wicks are damp with fear and insecurity. Some students decide to extinguish their pursuit in light of a different calling. As a teacher of music, I have observed each scenario play out and I feel blessed to be even a small part.
You read at the top of the home page that “a beautiful voice flows from a beautiful heart”. Taken at face value, there is little “fact” in that statement. I am not deluded enough to believe that if someone is beautiful inside, they will somehow produce a gorgeous singing voice! Nor do I believe that someone who is horrible inside cannot produce an awe-inspiring sound. I do believe, however, that the joy of singing for an individual comes from being at peace within oneself. I believe, wholeheartedly, that when we believe in the beauty within, that we have worth, we gain true access to the measure of talent we’ve been granted. Matthew 12:34 says, “out of the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks.” Though mildly out of context,😉, the principle remains, “it’s what’s inside that counts”!
